Today is Monday, December 19th and this is an AFA-CWA update for Northwest flight attendants. MEM based flight attendant and campaign volunteer, Shawn Fivecoat reporting. AFA-CWA Activists Attend "Campaign Blitz" in MSP To Show Support For NWA Flight Attendants As NWA flight attendants began receiving the first of many concessionary paychecks last week, over 35 AFA-CWA member activists from various airlines around the country flew in to the Twin Cities to support NWAflight attendants' effort to secure AFA-CWA representation. Flight attendants from Alaska, American Eagle, Horizon, ATA, America West, Mesaba, and United Airlines attended a two (2) day organizing blitz, which included airport campaigning and telephone banking of NWA flight attendants. Many NWA flight attendants expressed gratitude and even a bit of surprise at the show of union solidarity by our brothers and sisters from these AFA-CWA represented airlines. Perhaps we have been alone for so long in our struggles, that we have forgotten what it is like to have the support and the strength of others who share our careers and concerns. We would like to thank the various AFA-CWA members who flew in to the Twin Cities under terrible weather conditions to remind us that we do indeed have that support. This show of unity reminds us how important it is to belong to a larger union, and AFA-CWA is the largest flight attendant union in the world. AFA-CWA Conducts Bankruptcy Survey of NWA Flight Attendants AFA-CWA has begun a survey of NWA flight attendants in an effort to obtain credible feedback on the 90-day concessionary package that PFAA has agreed to. As you know, PFAA leaders unilaterally agreed to the largest pay cut in Northwest flight attendant history without a vote or even a polling of its membership. This shocking decision is completely contrary to the PFAA campaign promise that all Letters of Agreement "must be signed by the membership." Unless we change union representation, we have no guarantee that this will not happen to us again. AFA-CWA not only allows for membership ratification of ALL contracts, they also survey their members for input prior to making life-altering economic agreements. As such, AFA-CWA has placed a survey on our website at www.nwaafa.org in an effort to obtain the opinions and priorities of NWA flight attendants. We strongly encourage you to visit the website and complete this brief survey. Our input will be vital in defining a truly democratic and strong position in future negotiations. Save Our Careers -- Join the AFA-CWA Campaign The time has come for us to join the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA and gain the expertise and resources of the world's largest and most effective flight attendant union. AFA-CWA has the lobbying power, legal strategies and expert staff to help us protect our jobs and our contract. During these extremely difficult times, NWA flight attendants deserve the best union representation. We implore you to join us -- to become active in the AFA-CWA campaign. With your help, we get that much closer to our goal of obtaining the 50% plus one (1) signed authorization cards needed to bring AFA-CWA on the property and save our careers. Please visit our website at www.nwaafa.org and offer your time and your talents to the campaign. Or, you may leave a message after this recording, along with your name and clock number, and a campaign volunteer will contact you shortly. We have had a strong show of support in this campaign and with your help, we will reach our goal of becoming AFA-CWA represented flight attendants sooner than we would without you. Thank you for calling. On behalf of all the Northwest flight attendants and AFA-CWA staff working on this campaign, we wish you and your families a Happy and Safe Holiday Season.
