Sent: 20DEC05 22:15 GMT Subject: Sick Leave and OJI Leave Pay To: All Flight Attendants From: Brenda Van Sandt, Managing Director – Base Operations Subject: Sick Leave Pay and OJI Leave Pay to Be Issued in Separate Checks Beginning January 13, 2006, flight attendant sick leave pay and occupational injury (“OJI”) leave pay will no longer be included in the same check or ACH deposit as regular pay. Instead, flight attendants using sick or OJI will receive a separate check or deposit for such leave used during the pay period. The Statement of Earnings issued to flight attendants will contain a line item showing the amount of any sick or OJI leave to be paid by the separate check or deposit. Flight attendants will continue to receive sick or OJI leave pay at the same time they receive their regular pay. Flight attendants who currently have direct deposit will not be required to submit a new authorization in order for sick or OJI leave pay to be directly deposited in the same manner as regular pay. The amount of sick or OJI leave pay a flight attendant is eligible for will continue to be determined by the Company policy and the flight attendant contract. The change to a two check process will only affect the manner in which flight attendants receive this pay. The reason for this change is that Northwest pays sick and OJI leave benefits from a trust account that is separate from the bank account it uses to pay regular pay. Previously, the trust account forwarded sick or OJI leave pay to Northwest for payment with each employee’s regular pay. Employees now will receive sick or OJI leave pay directly from that trust account in a separate check or deposit. This change will streamline the processing of sick and OJI leave benefits and assist Northwest in administering employee sick and OJI leave benefits more efficiently. If you have any questions regarding the payment of eligible sick or OJI leave benefits, please contact the Northwest Airlines Payroll Department. For any questions regarding your eligibility for sick or OJI leave benefits under the NWA Sick Leave and Occupational Injury Leave Plan or the flight attendant contract, see your manager or Human Resources representative.
