Please Help Keep Our Communication Alive and Flowing!

The Northwest Airlines Flight Attendant  web site is brought to you by the the Owners of ClearDaze Web Hosting and Authoring Services- Kevin Griffin, a Northwest Flight Attendant for 21 years.  Mahalo to our sponsors who have helped to keep this web site alive and the information flowing.

The struggle for a decent contract has FINALLY come to an end here at Northwest Airlines with the ratification of the Flight Attendant Contract. It has been a long process in the works. The last four years and especially the last 12 months have seemed like a eternity here at Northwest Airlines. It is now over and we have to move on.

I know many Flight Attendants, whether they voted YES or NO to one or both of these Tentative Agreements will agree on one thing and that is that time has worn many down. The promise of an "Industry Leading Contract" has not appeared. The "Its Time" Slate took too long.

We have seen many changes in the new agreement. Some are indeed good and some are not so good. One change we have all seen and should really be grateful for is that for once we are talking as a group less divided by seniority, age, old airlines and geographic base locations. We have come together to discuss and inform each other. I have stated from the beginning days of the original Cleardaze Forum that debate is healthy. We may not always agree but at least we are talking and discussing concerns of our careers and futures here at Northwest Airlines. We have accomplished more in the past year than I have seen in my previous 19 years by just talking and discussing and looking out for one another in the contract concerns.

I would have liked to see the "unity building" coming from the leadership of our Local and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters but that was not in the cards at the time I guess. That makes it one more accomplishment we as a group have taken on and accomplished. I am hoping that the unity we have shown throughout the last year can remain and we continue to look out for each other in the future. We must remember that "We are the Union". We cannot rely on a few individuals to take care of our futures and us.

The Flight Attendant web site will remain active for as long as possible and as long as there is an interest. I believe we have learned a lot from each other and as I have stated many times "with 11,000 eyes looking" at the work of a few we can achieve more in our goals and futures.

Once again thank you for the contributions and interest in our futures. I realize that not everyone posts on the site. The statistics behind the scenes tell that information is flowing in larger numbers than what appears in the one window on the welcome page. Reading and sharing ideas and concerns while working the line has been just as important. In the beginning while creating the site I wondered if people would post or even leave a name just because of the intimidation factor. When the two lawsuits came along I questioned myself further and asked if it was still worth it. I have to remind myself daily that it was worth it because for once we have stood up to corporate greed and corruption for the sake of our livelihoods. We may not have won the entire battle but we gave it a good dose of what we can do when we are united and have the information and means to communicate in front of us. As many have stated in the forum- Information and Knowledge are Powerful tools. We have shared much of that over the last year. I thank everyone for that.

In Unity,

Kevin M. Griffin

I also would like to thank my attorneys Mr. Paul Alan Levy of the Public Citizens Litigation Group in Washington DC, Ms. Barbara Harvey in Detroit who worked endlessly, Gerald Laurie & Andrew Tanick in Minneapolis.  They have taken our legal battle on with Northwest as a pro bono case and I am forever in their debt.
